Zhe Liu, PhD
I was born and raised in Linyi city in northern China. As a child, my father’s collection of anatomy books inspired me to pursue a career in developmental biology. I did my Ph.D. at Peking University / Tsinghua University / National Institute of Biology, Beijing (PTN), using mouse genetics and disease modeling to study the cellular and molecular mechanisms driving lung alveolar regeneration. I joined the Sneddon laboratory as a postdoc in 2018, investigating human pancreatic endocrine development using scRNA-seq/scATAC-seq and novel computational algorithms. I am also passionate about applying what we learn in vivo to improve the production and function of hESC-derived beta cells in vitro. Outside the lab, you will find me chatting with a few close friends, reading books on business management and psychology, painting, and learning yoga instruction.
