Anil Bhushan, PhD

Professor

Anil Bhushan earned his PhD in Biophysics at University of California, Davis. He did his postdoctoral fellowship at the Salk Institute of Biological Studies, where he worked on TGF-beta signaling in the specification and patterning of endoderm. He subsequently worked at Institute Curie and Hospital Robert Debre in Paris on pancreatic development. At UCLA, his focus was on epigenetic mechanisms in pancreatic Beta cell formation, maturation and beta cell regeneration for T1D. At UCSF Diabetes Center he is pursuing how stromal cells shape immune and metabolic response in diverse disease settings such as cancer, autoimmunity and obesity. His particularly interest is to understand how islet associated pancreatic stromal cells are altered in T1D and how they can serve as targets to halt the progression of disease.
