Alice Chan, MD, PhD

Alice Chan is an allergist, immunologist and rheumatologist who cares for children with immune disorders suspected to have a genetic cause. These include conditions involving autoimmunity, autoinflammation, lymphoproliferation (when the body overproduces the white blood cells called lymphocytes), immunodeficiency or allergies.

Chan's research focuses on genes that regulate the immune system. She uses gene editing technology called CRISPR (clustered regularly interspaced short palindromic repeats) to generate mouse models for her studies.

Chan earned her medical degree at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School, where she also earned her doctorate in immunology. At UCSF, she completed a residency in pediatrics, a fellowship in allergy and immunology, and a fellowship in pediatric rheumatology.

Chan is a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics; American College of Rheumatology; American Medical Association; American Academy of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology; Clinical Immunology Society; Childhood Arthritis and Rheumatology Research Alliance; and Federation of Clinical Immunology Societies.
