In recognition of her extraordinary scientific career and transformative contributions to immunology, Professor at Diabetes Center, Department of Surgery, Gladstone-UCSF Institute of Genomic Immunology, and Eli and Edythe Broad Center of Regeneration Medicine and Stem Cell Research, Qizhi Tang, PhD has been named recipient of the Bluestone and Rosenkrantz Immune Tolerance Professorship in Diabetes out of the generous support of founding director Jeff Bluestone and his wife Leah Rosenkrantz.
Dr. Tang has emerged as a global leader in the field of immune tolerance, pioneering fundamental discoveries in regulatory T cell biology and translating those insights into innovative clinical therapies for type 1 diabetes, transplantation, and autoimmune disease.
"Tang's work exemplifies the rare combination of exceptional basic science, visionary translational research, and clinical impact, advancing the field from mechanistic understanding to human trials," Jeff Bluestone said, then continued, "we are honored to have Tang hold this chair and look forward to seeing her continued groundbreaking work in type 1 diabetes and beyond."
