Many in the diabetes community know Dr. Martha Nolte Kennedy for her belief that all patients should have the support they need to live well with diabetes. A compassionate physician and diabetes educator at UCSF for more than 30 years, Dr. Nolte Kennedy retired from her full-time clinical duties in June 2017.

Event Details: This family-friendly event will take place on Sunday, Dec. 17, 2017 at Peacock Meadow on John F Kennedy Dr., Golden Gate Park, San Francisco. All ages are welcome to participate. Run or walk both!

The Miracle Mile and the 5K Holiday Classic are both U.S. Track and Field Association certified 1mile and 5K courses. Both race runs along gently-sloping course allowing for participants to run their personal best.

In a study published June 5, 2017, in Cell Metabolism, Suneil Koliwad, MD, PhD, assistant professor of medicine in the Diabetes Center and the Gerold Grodsky, PhD/JAB Chair in Diabetes Research, reported his team’s findings that immune cells in the brain may trigger overeating and weight gain in response to diets rich in fat.
