Umesh Masharani, M.D.
Dr. Masharani is Professor of Clinical Medicine at the University of California, San Francisco. He trained at Oxford University and The Middlesex Hospital, London. He attends in the UCSF diabetes clinics. He also has an endocrine faculty practice.
Dr. Masharani has several clinical studies underway. He works with the islet transplant group assessing patients before and after islet transplantation. He and his colleagues are also conducting studies examining new therapies for insulin resistance. In another project, Dr. Masharani is collaborating with UCSF’s family medicine group (Dr Lawrence Fisher and colleagues) in assessing depression in patients with type 2 diabetes and the effect of depression and stress on glucose control.
Dr. Masharani has written a book, Diabetes Demystified, a complete guide to understanding and managing diabetes.
