Andrew Posselt, M.D., Ph.D., FACS

Dr. Andrew Posselt heads the Pancreatic Islet Transplantation Program and is co-director of the Bariatric Surgery Center at UCSF Medical Center. He specializes in adult and pediatric kidney, liver and pancreas transplantation as well as laparoscopic and open bariatric surgery. In addition to caring for patients, he is involved in research to investigate pancreatic islet cell transplantation, mechanisms of allograft rejection and tolerance, and the metabolic and biochemical consequences of bariatric surgery.
Posselt is a member of several professional and honorary societies and has given presentations on transplant issues related to clinical care and research. He is an assistant professor in residency in surgery at UCSF, where he supervises residents and fellows in transplant services and general surgery. He earned medical and doctorate degrees in immunology from the University of Pennsylvania and completed an internal medicine residency, general surgery residency and transplant fellowship at UCSF, before joining the staff in 2003.
